Alcoholism is a disease. It is a habit that the body reacts to when eliminated. The entire drinking thing has been a means for forgetting, or for getting courage, or for hopelessness, or unhappiness, or for boredom. Some people just go out with friends or not, and use drinking as a social exercise, but they like the experience, and it becomes a habit, and since alcohol is habit forming, the user becomes hooked and the longer you drink, the harder it is to quit. The drag is that if you enjoy wine with dinner, or that occasional martini, over using alcohol will subject the person to the need to eliminate all alcoholic drinks from their lives. It is much easier to just limit yourself to a normal amount of alcohol, perhaps 2 drinks, or if 3 is your limit...have a designated driver in case you are still woozy when you go home, and think of other people instead of yourself. It is too easy to feel self pity and thus the catalyst for over drinking. Get hardened and stop berrating yourself. Everybody's got something. Alcoholism is probably the easiest of all addictive substances to overcome.

Alcoholism can lead to liver damage because you are actually pickling your liver and other organs.

Alcoholism in many cases leads to aggressive behavior, including a myriad of abuses...animal, spousal, child, and self inflicted harm.

Value yourself more than that. If you need help just get it. Talk to someone. It is much more fun to drink that occasional drink with friends, than the constant alcohol fix that leads to death in so many ways.
